Big woman on campus? (Haha)

Hola!

As of Monday, I am officially, a college miss. Thus I retain the envyable title of "freckle-faced, romantic school-girl." I can't believe that this is my fourth day of classes, and I have not as yet made any mention of this momentous happening! People will begin to wonder about me...

I am adjusting to college life very nicely I think. Although, I can't be certain of seeing anyone I know on any given day, so sometimes its a bit lonely at lunch time. My ever-so-loyal best friends were not able to accompany me in this new phase, therefore I "am a lone reed". (Meg Ryan, You've Got Mail) =)

English 101 challenges me--that's good.
Spanish 101 confuses me--that's bad. (no comprendo)
History 103 ...makes the joints in my right hand hurt very much.

God is being faithful as I knew He would be. His mercies are truly new each morning! I would never have been brave enough for college without Him. So...PTL!

Well finally! I was begining to wonder about, or do I always wonder about you??? Oh well never mind...the important thing is that you finally posted about it!

I am glad you are adjusting well. I loved that school and I hope you have a positive experience while you are there. I never took Spanish, rather took German nor do I remember taking History 103, (I can only remember the names of the classes like, History of Architecture, etc.) but I really enjoyed my English class though that depends much on the teacher. I wish you wonderful teachers! On the other hand there is definetly something to be learned from bad teachers as well so either way I am sure it will be a good experience. If you happen to have the opportunity to meet Dr. Heiner, the gray haired older man who walks with a little shuffle, and it often seen prowling the halls, introduce yourself and tell him hi for me. That is the college president and he is wonderful. I really need to stop in and see him soon...the last time I was there he wasn't but I try and stop in a couple times a year just to see him.

Hey Bek!Sounds like college life is treating you nicely. I'm also enjoying my first year of the college life and it's going fairly well. I'm doing 5 classes and so the homework abounds but I'm managing to stay on top of it. e-mail me sometime and we'll talk college life. Hugs!

Hola, senorita! (Sorry, I don't know how to add the little accents and doodly-bobs...) Just ran across your blog for the first time in a long time and WHOA! You're in college! *falls backwards in a near faint* Do tell me you're taking Spanish from DEAR Mrs. Thompson. If you're not, I can understand why you aren't understanding the subject, and command you to take it from her next quarter. If you already are, then sorry...I have no advice other than...practice...listen...give her muffins! She LOVES muffins!
Anywho, continue enjoying college life. Maybe I'll bump into you sometime cuz I'm still floating around there. (Only one class tho...) TTYL.

No Cassie, I have a Professor Therkelson for Spanish. Do you know her? Are you finished with Whatcom? How long were you there?

Crystal, If I should bump into Dr. Heiner, I will be sure to convey your greetings. I saw him at Mark's graduation--he looked to be quite the queer, but endearing gentleman. No doubt he's as smart as a whip.

Bekah, what college are you attending? Trinity? Do tell.

Why thank you kind Sir Nicholas for the second complement. I trust math was endurable yesterday? BTW: do you know many people at Whatcom? I am battling despondency because of my continual solitude. You are profoundly blessed to have a brother so close in age! Hasta pronto.

Hmm. Dear little Rebekah going out into the big bad world. Is that possible? Just don't let college change your bubbling personality. My history is about American history starting with the pilgrim and going on up. What are you doing for history? As for spanish... Confusing is saying the very least. I took it last year and didn't do so well. But now at work I listen to the other people speak spanish and I am getting some of it down. I speak it but at least understand it.

Bek....I'm actually going to Kwantlen University College which is a bit cheaper than Trinity, but it's in Surrey so it takes me like 35-45 min to get to school for my 4 days of 8am classes. I'm going 5 days a week and taking 5 courses this semester and hopefully 6 next Sem 'cause my heart's desire is to graduate in April. I don't know if I can, though. Anyways, great to finally hear from you...drop me an e-mail sometime....or call me or I'll call you sometime so we can chat!Hugs!

Hi Rebekah, I'm a friend of Kristi's and I have to say from personal experience that the ONLY teacher you should take spanish from at Whatcom is Maria Thompson. But that's merely in my humble opinion. :-) I had her for three quarters and love her so dearly. If I could, I would be taking further Spanish studies from her, but I now live a thousand miles away and therefore I cannot. Who do you have for your other classes? The teachers you get are so important to the way a class goes, especially at Whatcom. If you ever want to know who to take certain things from, I have a few that I HIGHLY recommend...not for every subject though Enjoy your time at Whatcom...those were such pivotal years in my life as I really claimed my faith as my own and developed friendships and ideas that have shaped who I am today. God bless!

P.S. If you can, get involved with the Revive club! It's good to get to know other Christians on campus...we had a girls Bible study that was always the highlight of my schoolweek. :-)

Jillian's comment reminded me that you should stop by the student programs office on the second floor of the Syre building and check out the clubs on campus. There are many and that might be a place for you to start. I was there when Revive first got started, with Peter Rust, not sure if you know him, and I too enjoyed it. Don't loose hope quite yet. I didn't know anyone when I went there either but with a little persistance by the time I left in 2 years I knew many, many people. I worked in the cafe, student government, tutoring center, was involved with the international student exchange program, honor society, and I can't remember what else. Just don't give up and keep your eye out for things arond campus that might interest you or talk to your classmates about getting together to work on tests or projects, etc. All my best as you try and find your place on campus.

Beka, you are in my thoughts and prayers! How exciting to begin this new chapter of your life.

And thanks for the encouraging comment on my blog. I have to say though, left to myself, I'm not much of a "trooper" at all.
God has taken such good care of me (kept me going when there was no "going" left in me!), and I know He will take good care of you too!
Press on, and for pity's sake, do hold on to that imagination! ;)

Beka: I can hardly believe you're in college now, but am certain that you'll be a shining star among the students there, in keeping with your personality. Ciao from Germany! Beth B.
